LI Ka Ying, Cathy

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Accounting Concentration
2012 Graduate
Working at a multinational bank

Since graduated in 2012 from BBA (with Accounting Concentration), Cathy has worked at several reputable financial institutions in various positions. Her latest position is Know Your Customer (KYC) specialist at a multinational bank. Although she has not joined the Accounting Profession, she still managed to complete the HKICPA Qualification Programme examinations. What she got most out of her college life was more than knowledge and friendship, as well as development of her mindset. She may have started each job with minimal industry knowledge, but she is willing to take each opportunity and challenge. This attribute definitely is an advantage in the workplace.

TO Man Tik, Dickson

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Banking and Finance Concentration
2012 Graduate
Working at DBS

Dickson graduated from the Class of 2012 and is currently working as Senior Relationship Manager at DBS.

The HSMC BBA programme not only equipped himself with a basic understanding of the finance industry, but also gave him hands-on experience on practising what he has learnt in the classroom. These practices allowed him to apply the knowledge in real life situations.

Also, he was able to pass the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) examinations when he was still studying. The modules he took at HSMC were closely related to the curriculum of the CFP examinations which provided him with the necessary skills and knowledge in order to obtain this professional qualification before graduation.

Moreover, the company visit to Bloomberg, arranged by the Department of Economics and Finance was very impressive. After the company visit to this multinational fin-tech firm, he felt more confident in working in the finance industry when he graduated.

To sum up, there are two lessons learnt from his time at HSMC.

Firstly, we should learn to understand, accept and improve ourselves. Five years have passed and when he looks back, the BBA programme provided him with sound knowledge, and also built his confidence. He realised that we cannot let one failure determine our future. What is most important is that we learn from our mistakes and always strive for improvement.

Secondly, it is important to plan for the future. The internship requirement of the BBA programme allowed him to pave his career path as early as in 2010, which gave him an early exposure to the financial world.

“There is a saying that ‘If we fail to plan, we plan to fail.’ What’s more important is that if you think you can, you can too!”

LAI Tat Shing, Rex

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Accounting Concentration
2014 Graduate
Working at iMasteRoom

“Knowledge changes destiny” is his motto in life. Striving for a better destiny, Rex enrolled at Hang Seng Management College (HSMC), where his knowledge in accounting, business and technology was enriched. Throughout the four years at HSMC, he actively engaged in entrepreneurial ventures, community involvement and development of educational technology.

From the beginning, he wanted to make the best out of his college life. It was his honour to be the Founding President of the Students’ Association of Business Administration (SABA) at HSMC, and operate his own education centre since Year Three. It was not easy to strike a balance between studies and doing business, but the experience made him determined to become a successful socio-preneur in the education industry.

In 2014, he started his second business of providing the first e-learning platform for professionals in Hong Kong. Targeting young professionals, iMasteRoom aims to offer first-rate courses at affordable prices. With the incubation support from Hong Kong Science Parks, Cyberport, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and Jockey Club, iMasteRoom was granted funds of over a million dollars to develop advanced technologies.

In 2011, he was awarded the Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leader and actively initiated the DragoNation Forum which raised the awareness of socio-preneurship substantially. In the future, he hopes to develop a training curriculum about entrepreneurial spirit for student innovation. His dream is to help students develop their innovative ideas and make them into realities.

WONG Ka Hin, Jackie

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Banking and Finance Concentration
2014 Graduate
Working at Tradition (Asia) Hong Kong

After Jackie graduated from HSMC, he started working as a Money Broker at Tradition (Asia) Hong Kong, one of the world's largest interdealer brokers in over-the-counter financial and commodity related products, represented in over 28 countries and listed on the Swiss stock exchange.

Being a Money Broker was challenging at the beginning as they were required to work under great pressure, be smart, responsive, meticulous and sensitive to numbers. However, once he found the beauty of this job, he came to enjoy and love it. What’s even better was the attractive benefit package that complemented it.

Speaking of his time at Hang Seng Management College, he would like to thank Dr David Chui and the Department of Economics and Finance for establishing the Financial Trading Laboratory with the Bloomberg Terminals. It is highly useful and practical for finance stream students as their daily work involves the usage of Bloomberg and Reuter’s in the dealing room. Also, the curriculum of the BBA Programme is closely mapped against the Chartered Financial Analyst examination, which is highly practical for his future.

He is proud to be a graduate of HSMC and he is looking forward to the College’s further development.

POON Tin Wai, David

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Marketing Concentration
2016 Graduate
Working at Hopewell Holdings Limited as Management Trainee

Throughout the four years of study, David was given opportunities to explore the world and many other things.

To kick-start his exposure to the vivid business world, he did his first internship in Year 1. He worked for NetDragon Websoft Inc. in Fujian, China, where he gained insight into the world of business. In Year 3, he worked as a public relations intern for the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore. He was trained to be detail-minded and assisted in organising an international event for over 600 guests. These were invaluable experiences.

Apart from internship, he went to Inha University in South Korea for an exchange programme. Studying in a foreign country is definitely an unforgettable experience. The exchange programme in Inha University gave him the chance to exchange ideas with international students and to learn to embrace different cultures.

David is grateful to HSMC for providing him with all these opportunities. He is now working at Hopewell Holdings Limited as a management trainee.

TAI Wang Ngai, Gabriel

Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) – Marketing Concentration
2016 Graduate
Advancement to Master of Social Science in Global Political Economy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

In Hang Seng Management College, students and professors are like close friends. Gabriel was much inspired and enlightened by lecturers’ and professors’ passion and wisdom. They transform static book knowledge into dynamic and fascinating teaching. They teach students knowledge and the courage to compete with the elites around the world.

HSMC also gave him plenty of opportunities to explore himself and the world. His exchange experience to Edinburgh Napier University in Year 2 was a truly extraordinary one. He had the chance to interact with students from around the world. The inspiring journey helped him recognise his interest and determine his career path - to become an international relations researcher. In order to achieve this goal, he is going to study the master’s programme of Global Political Economy (MGPE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In Year 4, he has successfully completed a part-time internship at Cathay Pacific Service Limited, where he gained first-hand experience in marketing research and handling real-life customer situations. He has also learnt more about the aviation industry and the air freight market.

“Kingman Brewster once said, ‘It (education) makes it less likely that you will be bored with life.’ It is my pleasure to study here and it has certainly enriched my life.”

It has been 2 years since George graduated from HSMC.  He chose to study journalism at HSMC a few years back, and it turned out to be one of the best choices he has ever made in his life. HSMC has always maintained close connection with the media, and during his second year of study, he received an internship opportunity at Cable TV, through which he started his career as a professional news anchor.

HSMC has trained him to look at things from different perspectives.  At the College, he was taught the required skills for being a professional journalist, such as newswriting, public speaking and doing research.  Under the guidance of devoted professors, he made great progress both professionally and academically.  “Being a news anchor is by no means an easy task, but it is so much easier if you are on a right path. In my case it is studying journalism at HSMC.”
